Leatherman Fuse Multi Tool - More Capable When Compared With The Cheaper Leatherman Kick But Slimmer And Less Heavy Than The Leatherman Blast

All 3 tools bear a strong resemblance to one another, and all share the same improved tougher elliptical plier head. (In company with the Leatherman Charge and Leatherman Wave).

The pliers on the Leatherman Fuse are identical in width to my old Leatherman PST, however the pivot area is the considerably wider and stronger. When using the Fuse on various odd jobs around my house, I of the opinion that that this extra width started to get in the way. With a greater wire cutter area as well, I am certain the revised plier head design is a definite improvement.

If you are more used to the older Leatherman tools, the one thing that is clearcut in connection with the Leatherman Fuse is its handles. Plastic grips with rounded edges have been molded in along the edges, leading to the pliers being much more comfortable to hold on to than the original plain steel sides. A series of finger grooves has been added as well, which will help keep the tool from sliding when your hands are damp.

Within one handle, the Leatherman Fuse packs a set of scissors, a Phillips screwdriver, plus a cap lifter/can opener/wire stripper combo blade. The scissors do the job, but they are a step backwards in my opinion. For some reason, Leatherman has built them smaller than the old Wave scissors, with a considerably shorter cutting action. I preferred the previous ones better.

Much improved however, is the Phillips screwdriver. Unlike those on cheap imported multi tools, it has a really useful shape to it. It's also most definitely long enough to target recessed screws situated in the battery compartment cover on my child's new toys.

The other handle has a clip point knife blade together with a couple of flat head screwdrivers, also a nice length.

Talking of long tools, this balde should be labeled the Crocodile Dundee of multi tool blades, with significantly more reach than that of former multi tools in its class. What a knife!

But compared to its cheaper sibling the Kick, the one extra tool the Fuse has is its scissors. Which kinda sucks. Why didn't Leatherman leave the stupid lanyard ring off the Fuse, and substituted a high quality diamond file. I regularly us a file, and if I had the choice, would not carry a multi tool without one.

One important point about the Fuse blades; they all lock. Using the same rocker switch lock that Leatherman USA first employed on the Crunch, every tool locks securely into position with an audible click. I know, I carried an first PST without locking blades for over ten years. But it's like power steering on vehicles; as soon as it's an option, it doesn't make any sense to do without. Locking blades are a necessary thing in my opinion.
