Your Guru?


The other day I was speaking to a member at the health club I just registered at. (Never had time when I was employed.) We started having a conversation about our personal trainers. If you aren't familiar with the word, these are fitness professionals who are educated to make up with work-out routines based on personal strengths, needs and targets.

Anyway, Rick said something that bulls-eyed me right in the middle of my eyes. "I got so baffled reading all the books and fitness magazines. Any one has a different thoughts of what rewards the best. I eventually figured if I was going to work out, I could as well pick one expert, be attentive to them and put in action their routine."

Later, as I was driving my pained body home, I got to think about how suitable Rick's comment was to internet marketing. Everyone's a pro. (Even people who didn't manage to sell their first eBook.) And there exist million programs, books, secrets, techniques and strategies that will work for you.

The only thing is, you can instantly fall into what my favorite business school professor named, "Analysis Paralysis". That's where a lot of people are stuck. They continue reading, and it gets in the way of really work on something.

***** I was guilty *****

I was guilty of this, too. I must have purchased several hundred dollars worth of books and courses before I realized what did the job for me, with my very own internet business.

Luckily, the professional I decided to follow was, in hindsight, an extremely good choice. And by listening to his advice and following his ideas, I have built up a number of thriving cash flow streams.

My point isn't that my "guru" is the right choice for everyone. The point is to choose one or maybe a few people you really appreciate, and model them. Of course, see if they are truly successful in their own businesses first. But when you see someone you respect and who have got the style you like, listen to their tips and listen to what they suggest in their writings.

Following this method can save a lot of brain cells that you would waste switching strategies and tactics. It avoids bewilderment and provides you a great point of reference from which to work.

You can lay out the reading and the searching for the newest eBooks. Assume your guru knows the most updated strategies and will recommend you of how well they do their job.

I'm not saying you never read from another eBook or eZine again, it's pretty much that when you have one principle star you follow, it's much easier to see your way, working from home.
